Fall 2010 Book Arts Classes at Paper Birds Studio

BOOKBINDING CLASS – Thursday evenings  – 4 Classes
September 16, 23, 30 and October 7, 2010 -- 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
For beginning or continuing students, this class will focus on buildings skills in sewing, folding and creating books from concept to final product. In this class we will construct a 19th century paper book, with sawed-in cords. We will begin this class with a playful night of paste paper to use on the book. Cost: $125.00, includes most materials.                                    

BOOKBINDING CLASS – Wednesday evenings  – 4 Classes
November 3, 10, 17, and December 1, 2010 -- 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
For beginning or continuing students, this class will focus on buildings skills in sewing, folding and
creating books from concept to final product. In this class we will learn the Caterpillar book and how to
make Ethiopian headbands.  Cost: $125.00, includes most materials.    

                                
BOOKBINDING Workshops –Saturdays


SECRET BELGIAN
Saturday, September 25, 2010 -- 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Cost: $90.00, plus $10.00 for materials (paper, board and waxed linen thread).
Learn the unique structure developed by Hedi Kyle and passed on by book makers dying to share the secret.
This is a mulit-signature, hard-cover book that lies flat to write in. Bring a large sheet
of decorative paper to personalize your book.

LARGE PORTFOLIO
Saturdays, November 13, 2010 -- 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Cost: $90.00, plus $15.00 for materials (board, paper, bookcloth).
Make a large portfolio, about 18 x 24, with inner envelope to fit your treasured art work,
photos or other 2-dimensional paper.
                                                            

SEWING NEEDLE BOOKS
Saturday, November 20, 2010 -- 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Cost: $90.00, plus $10.00 for materials.
Learn to make a small hard cover book that will hold a needles for a seamstress or quilter, or bookbinder.
A great gift for the holidays.
